BEFORE USING THIS MEDICINE:
* Inform your Doctor or Pharmacist if you are allergic to any prescription or
non-prescription medicine; taking other medicines or have other medical
problems; pregnant planning a pregnancy or breastfeeding.
* Check with your Doctor Pharmacists or Nurse if information in this
leaflet causes you special concern or if you want additional information
about your medicine and its use.
* Inform your doctor if you have any of these conditions : KIDNEY DISEASE.
COMMON USE FOR THIS MEDICINE:
1- For the treatment of initial episodes of GENITAL HERPES
2- For the treatment of recurrent episodes of GENITAL HERPES
3- For the maintenance treatment of chronic GENITAL HERPES
4- To reduce heterosexual transmission of GENITAL HERPES when used as
suppressive therapy in immunocompetent patients.
5- For the treatment of GENITAL HERPES
6- For the treatment of HERPES ZOSTER (Shingles) in people with normal
immune systems.
HOW TO USE THIS MEDICINE:
Use this medicine exactly as directed on the label unless instructed
differently by your doctor
* This medicine can be taken with or without food REGARDLESS of meal times.
If stomach upset occurs take with food.
* Start taking medication AS SOON AS POSSIBLE after the onset of signs or
symptoms.
* This medicine is NOT A CURE. Patients need long-term management.
* Use this medicine for the full prescribed treatment period.
* Notify physician if symptoms do not improve or if they become worse.
WHAT TO DO IF YOU MISS A DOSE:
Take when remembered unless time for next dose. No double doses.
HOW TO STORE THIS MEDICINE:
Keep in original closed container in a dark cool and dry place away from
children. Discard unneeded medicine.
OTHER SIDE EFFECTS:
Headache; Nausea; Diarrhea; Dizziness; Muscle weakness; Constipation; Stomach
discomfort or pain; Decreased appetite.
If symptoms are mild but do not go away or are bothersome check with your
doctor. IF ANY OF THE ABOVE SIDE EFFECTS IS SEVERE CALL YOUR DOCTOR
IMMEDIATELY.
PRECAUTIONS AND WARNINGS:
* There are no adequate or well-controlled safety studies in pregnant women.
NOTIFY YOUR DOCTOR IF PREGNANT or intend to become pregnant.
* Patients with genital herpes (a sexually transmitted disease) should AVOID
INTERCOURSE when lesions/ symptoms are present to avoid infecting partners.
* Genital Herpes infection can be spread during sexual activity even in the
absence of symptoms and more likely if sores are present.
